Over the last few years the subject of soap writing has garnered more attention than any other single issue. I am not here to comment on it one way or the other. However, for those of you out there who think you can string words together that make sense, I am going to offer you something of a chance.
I have spoken about Reality Bytes, the show I am currently working on. The background for RB is basically the production of another soap called “Beyond Reason”. In effect this is a soap about the production of a soap. It may sound like a familiar format but this one digresses a little.
While the real story is happening in Reality Bytes, Beyond Reason plays in the background. In the same way you would see any soap, if you walked into a production office.
I am going to give you, that is YOU the audience a chance to write the show going on in the background. In other words I am going to have BR written by the fans who watch Reality Bytes.
Confused? Don’t be because it is really quite simple. You, the fans are going to submit scenes that will be used to play on the show that will be seen on monitors throughout the main show which is Reality Bytes. These scenes may not be in focus and may only be referred to occasionally but they will be an important part of what we do. The story will not be a “story” in the sense of what the show is but we are going to have a general tracking for our own purposes.

Here are the rules. First you must be registered otherwise we have no way of contacting you should we decide to use your piece.

You can submit scenes as often as you like.

We may use these scenes in various ways throughout the show

You will get a credit for them.

Payment is to be decided.

Pornography is not allowed.

So what do you do to enter? A brief history of the characters will be released shortly both on my site and the Reality Bytes Web site. The current story arcs for the characters will be given. You and other fans submit the scenes to continue the story by posting in the story threads on my message board. Occasionally direction will be given in the form of spoilers to steer the direction of the show. What happens to these characters in the meantime? Well, that’s only limited by your imagination. The story entries should be made in scripted form and an example will be provided.

And that’s it. I will be commenting on this as it progresses.

This is my opportunity to thank you. Trust me, I am expecting a high standard.

Can anyone tell me how I compute the length of the scene? And how long are these scenes supposed to be?

I think I can dance, writing that's another matter. I can still have fun trying though.

I think this is a great ideal. I think all the fanfiction writers out there whomever their favorite on whatever show should submit something. We have some great ones out there in computer land.

I know I can write because well......I always wanted to do this. The style of writing I prefer is the Late Anne Howard Bailey when she was Head writer for Days and SB and I adore Patrick Mulcahey...I have to say Tristan this is by far the most innovative thing I have seen in years when it comes to reviving and getting the message out how badly the soaps are dying...

ANd the real reason is.....The EP's networks and finally even the egotistical HW's FORGOT how to write for an ensemble and keep the show about the STORY not the actor; not the supercouple....the STORY that way every character is intertwined with each other and the storyline flourishes for years. These Hw's currently can only do cycle writing and its poor judgement...Example, Guza is an amazing plot writer...but HW? He can't do the duty because he ignore the basic formula of writing CHARACTER over the plot...he loves the mob aspec so much its completely decimated GH. The ratings are simply atrocious and I used to be a huge Guza fan, but nobody reigns him in. Its unfortunate, so if I can get a shot at this I would only dedicate myself to do my very best and stay true to the story and character so the audience feels enraptured where the writer is taking them. I applaud you on this.:)

I used to write pretty well I'm told, but it seems that when the teenage angst, and the early 20's angst went away so did my words! The pen has been replaced with a camera and Photoshop.

Tristan this is a fabulous idea.Great way to get the fans involved,if I was a writer I'd jump on it.Good luck to everyone that's participating
