I have read often and heard on interviews that you did this storyline in the most realistic way possible to help raise awareness of colon cancer. You said that if it helps one person get tested or checked, then it was worth it. I wanted to tell you right now that it was completely worth it.
I have always been a huge Robert/Anna fan, but more so a Scorpio Family fan in general. No matter what was happening, you all genuinely seemed to constantly love and fight for one another. So when I heard about this storyline on GH and saw how beautifully it was written, I knew I was still a Scorpio fan. But more importantly, I recognized how valuable time is with your family and so I made every member of my family go get checked (even the women!) Then I talked my friend, who is also an avid Scorpio Family fan, into doing the same. My family was given a clean bill of health (thank God), but unfortunately my friend's dad wasn't as lucky. He was diagnosed with Stage 2 colon cancer.
The doctor said that since they caught it so early on her dad has a really good chance of beating the disease and everyone is really hopeful.
Interestingly enough, there is a funny component to this. When the doctor asked what had made her dad get checked out when there were no symptoms he said because of Megan (my friend). When asked what made her mention it, she told them about the storyline on Night Shift. Imagine her surprise when both of her parents burst out laughing in the middle of the doctor's office! As it turns out, they had a pact when Megan was very little. Her dad would watch GH with her mom if she, in turn, watched Sunday and Monday night football games with him. Can guess their favorite couple on the show? You got it! Anna and Robert!
So bottom line, after all my ramblings, is this: you made a difference. It might not have caused as much awareness as we can hope, but it gave Megan her dad for many years to come. And to me, Meg, and her family...it's enough.
Thank you.
